ELK GROVE, CA - The Service Employees International Union Local 1,000, the largest public sector union in California, has endorsed Dr. Ami Bera for Congress.
SEIU, which represents more than 95,000 workers employed by the State of California, joins major unions including the Laborers’ International Union of North America and the California Teachers’ Association in supporting Bera for his record standing up for working families.
“Dr. Ami Bera has been there for Sacramento County workers and all working families,” said Yvonne R. Walker, Local 1000 President. “His support for a livable wage, affordable higher education, and stronger Social Security and Medicare benefits demonstrate his commitment to help working families get ahead.”
Local 1000’s members contribute nearly $6 billion to California’s economy, and work at over 1400 workplaces across the country.
“I’m proud to have the endorsement of California's largest public sector union, and the tens of thousands of workers and their families that SEIU fights for,” said Dr. Ami Bera. “If you work hard, you should be able to get ahead, and to make that opportunity a reality for every American, we need to protect Social Security and Medicare, and address the cost of education.”
Since being elected, Bera stood up to efforts to privatize Social Security and Medicare, and his office has helped thousands of residents, including veterans and seniors, work through the backlog to recover millions of dollars in benefits they’d earned.
